Psychiatric Services

Our psychiatric services are designed to meet the needs of adults who have primary psychiatric disorders, dual diagnosis, and addictive disorders. We address a variety of problems that may interfere with a person’s ability to function at work, home, and in social relationships. We provide psychiatric evaluations, diagnostic assessment, and medication management services (including Suboxone and Vivitrol for the management of addictive disease). The treatment at New Focus strives towards assisting clients achieve his or her highest attainable level of functioning.

Individual Outpatient Therapy

Our individual outpatient therapy services provide a validating and supportive environment for clients to identify personal goals and work towards improving his or her life. We often work with clients who struggle with excessive worry, overwhelming feelings, relationship conflicts, persistent sadness, poor self-esteem, impulsivity, anger, and trauma. Through use of DBT-informed techniques and other modalities, we provide nonjudgmental support where the client is expert. We collaborate with our clients on their journey to gain insight, empowerment, and live more effectively.

Group Psychotherapy

Group psychotherapy at New Focus provides clients with a safe and validating environment for clients to further reach personal goals. Group psychotherapy is an additional mechanism of change in which clients are able to explore, develop, and examine interpersonal relationships while working towards therapeutic goals. We offer a number of group psychotherapy options, including but not limited to DBT skills training and Suboxone groups.

Substance Abuse Treatment Services

Our multidisciplinary treatment team includes a board certified Addiction Psychiatrist (Dr. Aflatoon), nurses, certified substance abuse counselors, licensed professional counselors, and licensed clinical social workers. By providing a diversity of perspectives to the forefront of treatment, we hope to further optimize the recovery of our patients. We provide the following options for individuals seeking substance abuse treatment:

  • Addictive Disorders Intensive Outpatient Program
  • Medication Management
  • Individual Outpatient Therapy
  • Group Therapy

ADIOP

The qualified professionals at New Focus facilitate individual, group, and family therapies with an emphasis on helping the patient recognize his or her behavior patterns and developing healthier ways of responding to negative emotions. Therapeutic modalities include but are not limited to Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Cognitive Behavior Therapy, and the 12-step recovery approach. Group therapy facilitates the disclosure of shared experiences and feelings (such as shame, anger, and grief) with others who have similar problems. We believe by combining the aforementioned therapeutic modalities with psychiatric and nursing services throughout our ADIOP program, our clients may achieve optimal results supporting sobriety.

New Focus believes addressing all aspects of the addictive process such as the disease concept, family issues, and relapse prevention strategies through providing psycho-education are paramount in supporting recovery of our patients. Because recovery is a lifelong process, our team places values the importance on discharge planning and the aftercare process.

Our ADIOP program is appropriate for patients who are at a lower risk and no longer require the full day programming that is part of a partial hospitalization or inpatient program. ADIOP is held in the evenings from 6:00pm until 9:00pm on Monday, Wednesday, and Fridays.

Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) – This innovative treatment plan meets for 6 hours daily and for 5 days a week. We are currently developing this treatment program and will be offering it soon.
